For months we've experienced a VERY noisy crackly phone line. When it first started it was intermittent and we called BT, went through the checks and they sent out an engineer. Typically, when he arrived the line was pretty quiet- none the less he did all his checks and all came back clear. 3 months later, the line is worse than ever. We only have one phone socket, and the noise is still there whether we use the test socket and unplugg our router. Our Internet has also become very slow and frequently (every few minutes) drops out (we are with O2). O2 say that all is ok from their end and it must be down to the BT lines...really frustrating and at our wits end. We're at the point now that we almost no meaningful use of our broadband or Internet...and we depend on these for our work.
BT claim that the fault must be within our internal wiring, but this noise and Internet problem occurred over night- and I can't see how this can be...?.

If you have connected to the test socket and the crackle is still there then it is classed as external and out of your hands, you will need an engineer to visit. Are you fed by overhead wires or are there underground? Is your master socket in a damp location?
