What is that thing? Something used by BT?

Hi there,

Does anyone know if this thing belongs to BT? Are these being used or redundant? How does one get rid of this thing from the front of their house?

Its nothing to do with BT Retail, its a connection pillar used by Openreach.

If you wanted it removed, you would have to ask them, but its likely to cost you quite a bit of money, as a number of cables would need to be re-routed.

As its on the public footpath next to an Openreach manhole, why do you want it moved?

@Keith_Beddoe thank you for your reply. As the other poster mentioned expanding the driveway and it is also in the middle of the lawn in front of the house (still slightly on pathway as in the picture).

I would have thought that the manhole which is adjacent, would present more of a problem, as you would not be able to drive over it, as its only intended for pedestrian traffic, and would need a stronger cover if you intend, or are even allowed, to drive over it.

The pillar would not be on your property, otherwise there would be a wayleave agreement in force.

It’s called a Jointing Post.

Or commonly known as a pain in the **bleep** to most Openreach Engineers.

Usually found on Estates where the cabling is buried direct in ground, i.e. none ducted.

Given there’s a JF4 near it, it might be redundant but there’s no way to confirm without actually checking the pairs in it.

If you need it moving you’d need to organise a Network Rearrangement with Openreach via their web site. You’d be liable for the costs.
