I have a quad set of BT 8500 cordless phones which are probably about 4 or 5 years old now. One of the handsets has stopped working (the number 6 won't work, and the handset flashes on and off randomly) and I want to replace it, without replacing the whole set. 8500s are now only available second hand on EBay - mostly at a similar price, or even higher than a new handset would cost, so I would prefer to buy new.
If I buy a 8600 single model will I be able to replace the 8500 handset and base and keep my current remaining 8500s handsets/chargers working ok? I gather that if I try to put the 8600 onto the old 8500 base, it will only give basic functions, ie receive and make calls. Thanks.
I think, but are far from 100% certain, that when I bought mine someone on here said the 8500 & 8600 were the same but the number only changed by where it was bought from. Try googling it.
I have the exact same question as you... I’ve had the BT8500 for several years but now need to replace one of the handsets, and can only get the BT8600 (or 8610).
Can you share if BT Customer Service confirmed compatibility? And, if so, did you need a new charger, or does the original BT8500 charger also work for the newer model?
