Additional Phone Number on Existing Line?

I can't find anything on BT website but I've heard that it's possible to get an additional phone number on an existing phone line. In other words two phone numbers on the same line. Apparently, an incoming call on the additional number has a longer tone. Is this the case?

Re: Additional Phone Number on Existing Line?

I think your talking about broadband talk... It's only available if you have BT broadband on the line.

I think you'll find the service is called Call Sign. BB Talk is a separate line on the BB connection.

With Call Sign you have two numbers on the same line. The second number will ring with a different tone.

You can request the service through 150.

Thank you caerdydd,

I shall look it up. It seems like a simple alternative to having a new line.

Re: Additional Phone Number on Existing Line?

Just a thought, so I expect that calls made from the line always retain the first phone number and the second phone number is just for receiving calls with the different tone?

oh, and will be interesting to know if an answer machine can be set up to answer calls to the 2nd number alone...

They do, yes. The Call Sign number will just ring with a different tone. You need a fairly modern phone to do it that has the facility for different ringing.
