Yes you can - and here is how to do it.
1. On the handset select Menu, Answer Phone is displayed, press Select
2. Press CALLS until Settings is displayed, press Select.
3. Press to highlight Ans. & record and press Select.
4. Press to display Message alert and then press
or to select On or Off and select Save.
Saved will be displayed and the annoying machine has now been de-beeped lol for good.

Thanks very much. Also works for BT2500 (Usefully, the number of rings before auto-answer is also set using this menu option).

Thanks! It was useful to know that the beep when a message is left is called a "message alert".
On the BT Freestyle 650, you have to press and hold the "backwards skip" button (just below Answer On/Off) on the base. After a couple of seconds, it will announce that "message alerts" have been turned off.
