Bale to front new BT Sport Advertising

Is it just me or does anyone else find it strange that we choose a footballer from a league we don't show to front up our Advertising....

http://sport.bt.com/sportfootball/football/bale-to-front-new-advertising-campaign-S11363915134079

Is it just a case of we paid him before he switched so we need to get some money out of it somewhere....

'The latest stage of BT Sport’s second season campaign focuses on the fact that BT Sport shows live matches from more top flight football leagues than any other TV provider in the UK'  BUT NOT the La Liga that G Bale plays in....

Re: Bale to front new BT Sport Advertising

Didn't BT sign him  last  year (May) along with a number of a number of others, The media release (may 9 2013) at the time  mentions it was for 3 years.

Re: Bale to front new BT Sport Advertising

There is a Daily Mail story dated 26 March 2013 about the 3-yr deal for Bale as a BT "guest pundit" which is slightly earlier than that May date in the press release from BT. At the time he was still a Spurs player. Even earlier than that he was involved in ads for BT (Vision) as far back as 2010 - but that was a different situation to the one we are in now.

It does look a little at odds but as it stands Bale would be playing for Real Madrid 2015-16 in either the CL or EL competitions for one of which you would expect them to have qualified! That would mean that for something like at least two thirds of the 3-yr deal BT definitely will not have any Bale games (not forgetting that any Wales games would be screened elsewhere too).

Possibly it is a bit of a mess-up as after he signed his new deal for BT he then signed for a club BT cannot show until 2015-16 at the earliest (and that was only a later development with the winning of the European club competition tv rights in or around Dec 2013). Or the thinking is he is still as relevant as anyone else to promote the BT Sport channels being a highly recognized player worldwide. Not to put too fine a point on it but the player they have fronting the ads - every competitive game he can appear in will be on Sky Sports until August (or September) 2015 at the earliest!

(also don't forget current La Liga rights with Sky are up until end of 2014-15 so we don't know for certain whether BT or Sky will have La Liga thereafter)

Re: Bale to front new BT Sport Advertising

I lost respect for Bale once he choose not to make himself available for the Olympic team
