Universal channel leaving BT, can we now cancel BT TV?

I have read on a couple of websites that with Universal leaving BT that subscribers are now free to cancel their TV within the next 30 days with no charges. Is this true?

Hi @stevewest1

In the next 30 days, you can contact BT to cancel BT TV without paying a fee to leave early.

Call 0800 800150

Thanks

I had an email from BT giving me that option a few days ago.

It is odd as it is not that the channel is leaving just BT - the channel is closing down.

BT don't usually allow that as a reason.

Yes - I just took it as an opportunity to renegotiate the contract as I had no interest in leaving BT TV.

Universal is a Comcast asset as such Sky(now owned by Comcast) have decided to repackage it as a Sky exclusive channel called Sky Comedy.
