Darts

I see that the SKY Contract to show the darts world championship etc is coming to an end, with Netflix and Amazon interested does anyone think D+ should try for these rights.

Re: Darts

I doubt that they're interested, why pursue a sport that you don't cover and doesn't fit with your current portfolio of sports. I would be very surprised if the contract with Sky isn't renewed, both the PDC and Sky have done very well out of their collaboration, why change it?

Re: Darts

Posturing most likely, Sky aren't likely to walk away as it's probably their second most popular sport. Barry Hearn knows that but he also knows that the PDC is where it is now partly due to Sky, and he also knows that while he potentially may get a better deal elsewhere, Netflix, Prime or Discovery+ won't be good for the sport in the long term.

A new Sky deal must be odds on favourite.

Re: Darts

Looking at a recent Sports Pro media article there was an view

It’s funny how often a sports property nearing the end of its contract is linked to one of the streaming giants. Sometimes it’s an effort to tempt readers to click – and darts is a hot topic right now – and other times it’s rights holders attempting to drive interest in their rights and bump up the price.

Re: Darts

It doesn't end until Aug/Sept next year, and no. TNT won't be the home of the PDC.

More likely to be Sky retaining or DAZN. DAZN hold the rights in alot of European countries and some of the Americas, which would make more sense for them, especially considering their relationship with Matchroom.

Sky being asked to pay £45m a year isn't happening and if thats the actual asking price from Matchroom, then i can see Sky laughing hard and telling them to leg it, because the darts isn't worth that to any network!

I do however see Sky securing a deal with PDC, as they both work well together and they both value eachother for what they bring to the table. No chance TNT!
