Hi all, I'm really quite concerned by what has just happened to me, I've just had someone from cityfibre knock on my door telling me that they supply my internet and BT were just a company that I pay money to, and BT had asked him to call to check my speeds, which sounded very odd to me. He wanted to look at my router, then told me I was being charged for for speeds I wasn't getting. He wanted me to log in to my BT account and tell him what I was paying every month, which I refused to do. He said it didn't matter as he could access my account on his tablet. He went on to say that he would have to book an appointment to come back on BT's behalf as my equipment was out of date. When I refused to make an appointment with him he got slightly angry, and in a raised voice told me, 'That' fine madam, carry on if you want to keep paying too much!' Was I correct in telling him to go away? |

Yes, that was a scam. Did he show you any id?
If he does come back, don't let him in.

You should call City Fibre and report the incident to them because at the very least if it was one of their agents he is using bad if not illegal practices.

Thank you,
That was really helpful, I'm glad I told him to leave now.
I just couldn't get my head around what he was on about, as I was sure there would have been some correspondance from BT on the matter if it was true.
Ever since I installed a video doorbell and another CCTV camera covering the front of my property, no one outside of family/friends with the exception of Royal Mail/bona fide couriers and genuine utility company representatives, knock on my door. Scammers don’t like having their stupid faces recorded.
