(FAO: BTws) Exchange congestion is causing severe latency issues during peak times.

Go to solution

We are PlusNet customers, however as they use BTWS infrastructure then this really ought to be directed to the source of the issue for the problems to be addressed.

The following exchange has too much congestion which is causing incredibly severe issues around peaks times, generally starting at 8pm local to 11pm:

WSJOH

For the past week, it has become incredibly problematic as the ping to an east coast US-based server (which would usually sit around 100/ms) will sit at around 1000/ms, and spike up to 26k/ms (for those not technically-minded, that's a 26 second delay which is simply untenable for certain online content).

I have no doubt that there will be others connected to this exchange who will be experiencing similar issues should their online activities demand a sustainable bandwith, such as online gaming, video calling, uHDstreaming, etc.

Rather than waste any further time, would you kindly add this exchange and raise it as needing attention for expanding the capacity in order to resolve this issue for not only myself, but I am sure plenty of others.

It is not a problem that is fixable from the customer end unfortunately.

Thank you.

So why are you posting on a BT RETAIL forum? You need to take up your issue with Plusnet who will in turn take it up with BTW, nothing whatsoever to do with BT Retail.

If you have a problem with congestion "this really ought to be directed to the source of the issue for the problems to be addressed" and not this BT Retail residential customer to customer forum where your post does not go to BT.

You should direct you complaint to your own Internet Supplier, who should then take up the matter for you.

I'd also add Plusnet is a BT Group company.

With the greatest of respect, read the title... And if you have not yet comprehended what it actually states, then keep reading it until you do.

Thank you.

As the others said, this is a BT Retail customer forum. Your issue is with a BT Wholesale product. Plusnet, BT Retail and BT Wholesale are all part of BT Group. In this case, Plusnet are a customer of BT Wholesale and as such they will need to raise and issue to BT Wholesale as other BT Wholesale customers have to. They don't receive special treatment as that would be anti-competitive and is not permitted under OFCOM legislation.

As others have indicated, why post on a BT Consumer forum when you are a customer of a different ISP, even if you are correct, and there is congestion in Plusnet’s   backhaul, and PN is a customer of BTW, then PN is the only way for you , a PN customer, to highlight the issue ( chances are they already know )...as far as BT customers on the same exchange, they may or may not be experiencing the same issue, it’s entirely possible that BT customers are not having the same issue , as BT may provide more backhaul bandwidth....you like many post on BT Consumer forums for no apparent reason, apart from believing BT Consumer is a proxy for any  part of BT Group, but they are not.
