Number port and move not complete - currently got 2 properties with same phone number

Can anyone from BT help us - we've not been moved to our new house properly....

Our move from property A with TalkTalk isn't finished, so whilst we have a new digital fibre100 service with no copper at out new property B, we're seeing calls to the same number getrouted to the copper install with TalkTalk at property A.

TalkTalk can see dozens of NPOR requests to take over the line, but they aren't getting completed. This has been going on for 2 months now, and whilst we still own both properties and can put a call divert in place, its not good having 2 sets of bills coming in for the same phone number.

@_steve

This is a BT Retail Customer forum and has nothing to do with Talk Talk or Openreach. Its Openreach that do the work on the network, for nearly all providers.

BT do not control phone numbers, that is down to the individual Service Providers.

You need to post on the Talk Talk user forum.

Thanks

Re: Number port and move not complete - currently got 2 properties with same phone number

Hi Keith

We've got to the end of the line with TalkTalk - the number is now with BT, who have installed the new line and they should have taken over the number, but they haven't finished the porting.

They tell me in rough terms that they still have the majority of the line - ie the analogue circuit - the new digital circuit installed at our new property is working on the same number and uses a VOIP style setup, hence we have 2 lines at 2 properties that dial out with the same number.

TalkTalk have nothing to do - they are awaiting BT to take it all over. They aren't cutting the analogue circuit as they can see the port hasn't been fully completed, they have said we could lose the number if they simply terminated everything at their end, and have told us to get BT to finish the port.

Sorry, you did not make it clear that you were moving from TT to BT Retail.

Are you on FTTP? And have BT Digital Voice.

Who originally issued you your phone number, as they would be the number owner.

Re: Number port and move not complete - currently got 2 properties with same phone number

Hi Keith the number was originally with BT about 20 years ago, (could have been sky ?!) this got taken over by TT, then moved to Property A, stayed with TT, then moved to property B after asking BT to take it over and install new lines at a property with no connections. all 3 properties on same exchange.

Is there anyway to tell who "owns" a number?

Yes.

If you have a quick look at the OFCOM website :-

http://static.ofcom.org.uk/static/numbering/index.htm#geog1

and download the spreadsheet that contains your local  number range (note the numbers exclude the leading zero). The line in the spreadsheet will show to whom the range is allocated.

Can you please confirm whether you are now on FTTP?

And BT Digital Voice, is that correct?

You would not lose the number as it belongs to BT, so it does not matter what TT do.

Yes we have voice service too as well as Fibre100 - all working fine for the past couple of months - lovely fast internet, no issues with calls out or in, until we tracked down users of the 3 network were getting routed through to the old property.

Took a phone back to the old empty property - surprised to find a dial tone, and even more surprised to find it ringing out using the same number - didn't think that was possible 🙂

Do you want me to PM you the number?

I am just a customer, so do not post me any personal info.

If BT Digital Voice is working for both incoming and outgoing calls, then there is no need for the TT line.

If you are concerned, then talk to the FTTP team on 0800 587 4787, as they deal with digital voice, and should be able to confirm the connection.
