Re: Teamviewer.com

I just want to confirm this so people know (as in i have made this account for this one post, it bugs me that much):

teamviewer itself IS NOT A SCAM.

its an app used to allow remote control of computers. i have a server myself which i have teamviewer installed on so i can remote control it from my laptop while im out and about.

the people you encountered are in no way associated with teamviewer. they are tech scammers. they are normally based in india in call center and will consitently ring up peopleto try and get them to go on their computer. once they are on their computer they will usually follow a script of doing things like opening the command prompt (a program used on windows to run commands) and type in something like "Tree" which brings up lots of lines of text so as to make people think they are searching the computer (when really its just displaying the folders on your computer). they will also sometimes open up the task manager (which displays active programs) and pick out random system programs like "SVHost" and claim theyre viruses (when really its just a windows system file).

as i said, Teamviewer itself is harmless as long as you dont give away your details (your personal id in the software) to anyone. as long as they havent opened anything up or downloaded anything else, they probably havent done anything to your computer, though its still worth uninstalling teamviewer as they now know your personal ID (the number you likely told them).

the reason this gets me so annoyed is that i have to avoid using BT as an internet provider else i have to jump through hoops just to be able to use some software i can use with any other ISP without hastle.  i get they are trying to protect consumers, but frankly blocking the software just seems like slander on an honest company. its the call centers they have a problem with.

Teamviewer is not blocked by BT, I'm a BT broadband customer and also use Teamviewer.

TalkTalk do actively block Teamviewer, however you can request it lifted I believe.
