YouView box whirring

My new YouView box makes a low whirring sound continuously. You don't notice it when the TV is switched on but is mildly irritating when the TV is switched off. Presumably it's using power too. Is this normal? Should I just switch the box off at the power socket when not in use?

Yeah I've noticed it too. I put the box in maintaince mode and reinstalled the OS from scratch. But it still happens.

Re: YouView box whirring

The Youview box has a fan, that could be the problem. There is a small hole at the back. That is the exhaust fan which dissaptes hot air away from inside the Youview box, just like a computer.

Re: YouView box whirring

On my laptop, the fan doesn't do anything in stand-by mode.

I've just moved from Virgin where the box did everything I wanted, was smaller and didn't show ads, oh and was totally silent.
