I Plumped for the RT-N66U and have been quite pleased - Bear in mind you'll still need the modem

I believe the DSL-N66U that the OP is after, does not need the OR Modem:

  • True two-in-one modem router with Ethernet WAN and DSL WAN
  • Dual system design offers more performance and flexibility for wired and wireless connections
  • Gigabit Ethernet ports for the fastest, most reliable internet performance
  • File and printer sharing via two multi-functional USB ports
  • ASUSWRT dashboard UI for easy setup, signal monitoring, and network application control
  • Auto-detecting ADSL/VDSL connection with CD/manual-free setup
  • Finest P2P experience via 300,000 concurrent data sessions

WHOOPS! My Bad.

Should work fine but may meed tweaking to ensure extra channels (multicast) are allowed through

ASUS RT-N66U
You must configure 'Enable VPN + DHCP Connection' to 'No' under the WAN option.

Settings used were:
- Have router on the latest firmware: 3.0.0.4.374.130
- Use the following settings in LAN > IPTV:
- 'Select ISP Profile' = None
- 'Choose IPTV STB Port' = None
- 'Use DHCP routes' = Microsoft
- 'Enable multicast routing (IGMP Proxy) = Enable
- 'Enable efficient multicast forwarding (IGMP Snooping) = Enable
- 'UDB Proxy (Udpxy) = 0

Re: Asus DSL-N66U does this router play well with BT Youview

Hi,

My initial reaction was the same; however, when I upgraded from the N66U to the N-87R and Vigor 130 modem, everything (eventually) became clear:

The above took a long-time to solve, hence wanting to share the solution; it looks like it's the modem...the ASUS plays very well with BT YouView 🙂

FYI - I'm now using the N66U as an Access Point in a different room to connect Sky+ and YouView boxes as well as boost the wireless signal into the rest of the house and garden.  Please note that YouView only works over a wired ethernet connection; buy some BT Extenders which use the electrical wiring in your house to go from the main Router to any secondary router (running in a different mode).

Hope that helps.
