BT TV Pro box - sound

Anyone else found the sound from the new BT TV Pro box dreadful?

The only decent sound, is when the pgm is actually Dolby sound, anything else is muffled,. Changed settings, changed input (surround/stereo), changed HDMI leads, changed input/oupt (via soundbar/via tv).

Seems it tries play everything in Dolby when the source doesnt match.

Given up.

Reverted to my old BT TV box.

Using Sony Bravia  KD49XG7093 and LG Sound bar.

Re: BT TV Pro box - sound

It's not great and I find mine to be incredibly quiet too. Through my AVR, every other source is quite loud at around volume 35, with the BT TV Pro, it has to be right up above volume 55 to be anywhere near.

In stereo, the audio quality is OK, but on Dolby Surround it's bad.

I've yet to get it to do Dolby Atmos yet.

Re: BT TV Pro box - sound

I find the sound of 2.0 material output by the box to 5.1 - is not just 2.0 passing thru with some silent channels - there is something else going on distorting the sound.

Re: BT TV Pro box - sound

Yes, I've just received my new BT TV Pro box and I'm very disappointed with the Surround Sound implementation. It's a downgrade from the my previous Youtube HD Ultra 4k box and needs a firmware update.

There are two settings, Stereo and Surround.

If I set it to Surround mode, the new Pro box does not send the same coded surround channel information the an AV system as the Youview HD Ultra 4k box did.

It works fine if the program being received is in 5.1, (eg a BBC 5.1 movie or a movie on Netflix or Prime) but if the program being received is in Stereo (eg the BBC News), my AV system can't generate a pseudo 5.1 sound effect which it could with my previous Youview HD Ultra 4k.

That means the sound effect in my living room is constantly switching between 5.1, and stereo as the program changes. This is a downgrade in functionality and was not the case with my previous Youview HD Ultra 4k box.

I also have an Apple TV 4K box, so as a check, I selecting a BBC iplayer stereo program and m AV system could still present the stereo program in pseudo 5.1 surround!

Clearly the BT Pro box is not sending some vital coding information within the stereo signal to allow an AV system to generate a pseudo surround effect.

I can't get past 1st line tech support staff to speak with a tech specialist with deep knowledge of the Pro box so I  may send it back to get a refund and then use my old Youview HD Ultra 4k box.

I'll re-buy if/ when they sort the firmware out.

They have acknowledged the issue and are looking into it.

Re: BT TV Pro box - sound

Thank you for this update.. I though a resolution would be hopeless but I'm pleased to hear something is being done. I'll hold on to the Pro box now. Thanks again.

No worries. There was no timescale provided for any fix though. So bear that in mind too.

But if you're interested, a few of us did discuss it with Darren on that other thread and he acknowledged that it was an issue. Darren is one of the BT TV experts and developers at BT.

Re: BT TV Pro box - sound

I've just sent my post to Darren since he was asking for more input. Hopefully it adds a bit more pressure to get it fixed.

Thanks once again for your comments and advice.
