my box powered off randomly last night, and now it won’t turn back on at the mains, remote or buttons on the actual box - the light goes red and bt in purple pops up on my screen but it changes to you view, the box powers itself off again? Could you help?

It sounds like the hard disk drive has failed.

Switch it off at the mains for about 30 seconds and listen very carefully for any noises coming from within the box, you should hear the drive spin up to speed in one smooth motion, if you hear anything else then the drive is faulty.

BT will replace the box free of charge if you are in contract

Thanks for posting about your STB. I had a similar issue myself. @Les-Gibson advice is good. If you're hearing a skipping or stop/start then the STB is more than likely faulty.
