Re: Failed Recording

Add another to the  list. Back from a few nights away and our box has many failed recordings, Emmerdale last night 4th June and tonight 5th June. Hubby also wanted to record the Isle of Man TT races and quite a few of those have also failed.

Re: Failed Recording

Good afternoon everyone - this update is a bit late as we have been working with YouView on testing and updates to our case studies.

Apologies for the ongoing issues, as you will guess we are continuing on a number of lines of investigation that are concentrating on the interaction between the transmission data from the broadcasters and how that feeds into the recording schedule that is locked in the set top box.

Additionally there's also a lot of information that we're looking at regarding changes to channel data caused by recent 700mhz work run by Digital UK that's freeing up space for 4G by moving channels further down the spectrum. It's instructive that many people here are telling us about issues around ITV and C4 recordings as these live in the same space (multiplex) which is different from where BBC channels are where we see less reports of failure.  The box needs to know where the channels are in order to start recording after waking up and we can see indications that the data isn't always getting to where it's needed, and if it's different from where it was when series-linked recording was originally set up could cause the signal to be missed - the box should be checking for changes but it's worth checking if you have a continuing failure on series episodes. If you do, try deleting and recreating those so that the box is forced to use the most up to date data from the network.

We have more testing underway over this weekend and I'll provide a further update early next week.

Thanks for your time and reports,

David

Re: Failed Recording

One thing that I have noticed in the past couple of months and it's not on my Youview box but with our LG TV.  Quite often when I switch it on for the first time during the day (not time dependant) there is a message on screen stating the 'programme map' has changed click yes for retune or no.

Why the programme map should keep changing is a mystery as our house hasn't moved during the night.  Last week when I clicked yes the TV retuned and we ended up with BBC London instead of West Midlands (Sutton Coldfield transmitter).

Needless to say although the EPG had listed the revised data we couldn't receive BBC London and I had to retune the TV again whence all the correct channels populated the EPG this time.

We are nowhere near any transmitter that could possibly tune in to London and we have an almost brand new aerial in order that we can receive COM7 & 8 channels 55 & 56 - aerial is a Log Periodic.

Re: Failed Recording

Do you live a fair distance from your main transmitter? I get the channel map thing all the time on my LG tv, and can pick up Oxford or Bristol depending on when I retune. Though if I end up with Oxford by accident it starts pixellating in the evening. Sometimes I can pick up Meridian, which is nowhere near where I live and has a terrible picture. Usually my tv picks up both, but then lets me choose which one to select as my main channel before doing the final save.

About 37 miles, though we also have the option of using a relay, but that is for the same transmitter, the only difference is the aerial alignment i.e. vertical instead of horizontal.
