Re: New YouView Layout

Go to solution

Read the feedback on the various related forums arohnd the Web and opinion is divided at best. In fact if you read most of the feedback on this thread on this forum alone then I think you'll find there are slightly more people against it than for it.

For many its all about looks and for others its about functionality. Unfortunately some things which could improve it and given as feedback during testing of the next series of updates are falling on deaf ears at Youview.

Re: New YouView Layout

Go to solution

I think reading the hundreds of comments in various forums and communities there are definitely things implemented wrong in this 'NextGen' software.

Why have the 'TV Guide' as the 1st option on entering the menu when there is a 'Guide' button on the remote. Surely 'MyTV' should be 1st with 'Players & Apps' 2nd.

'MyTV' - Personally I've nothing against 'tiles' BUT they are too small to contain the full title of a show (especially if its one of those shows titled 'New:...'). Remove the ONE large tile, use the space it creates to make all the tiny tiles slightly bigger so they can contain full titles. It's not a difficult change to make.

One change or function that should have been kept is the 'list' view. I think that if it was given as an optional view then people would be more receptive to 'NextGen'.

'MyTV' - Being dropped into the latest episode of a series stack wasn't so bad in list view but is more tedious in tiles view. The focus should either be on the earliest recorded OR even the earliest not as yet viewed. Pressing 'ok' for 3 seconds to get back to the start of a recording is daft when its easier to have a pop up asking to 'play' or 'resume'. Also, why does backing out of a recorded programme now take you back to the series stack rather than the episode just viewed to allow easier management of deletion/navigation?

'Players & Apps' - Another backward step in the way things are managed after exiting a player or app. Whereas before you were dropped back into the main 'players/apps' menu now you are taken back to live tv. To access another app its now more button presses to get back into the menu.

There was/is potential for 'NextGen' but I honestly can't see Youview admitting they've got it wrong and implementing too many changes unless their stakeholders put the pressure on as customers opt to go elsewhere which is evident from many comments in these past few days. After all, FOUR years and counting and they still haven't caught up with even the most basic, dirt cheap pvr boxes, and implemented padding for recordings, which was the most requested item when the 1st ever phase of customer trialing was being carried out.

Re: New YouView Layout

So, now most of us appear to have the update and have had time to get accustomed to it

According to this article on the Connect Award https://tv.bt.com/tv/tv-from-bt/new-look-bt-tv-wins-tv-connect-award-11364170111010 there are very few of us on 'NextGen' - 'Since February, we’ve rolled out the new interface to 250,000 customers and expect to have all 1.6 million on board by the end of May'.

You will find the sky layout very similar, also you are unable to hide channels.

I am appalled and horrified with the new layout on the 'new' bt tv service it is almost impossible to find previously recorded programmes as you only see a brief tile. Are there any prospects of getting the previously perfectly acceptable list format? The list's were so easy to navigate. What are Bt playing at? Dumbing down and improving things worse again!

Can anyone please tell me if Sky have this ludicrous method of navigation?

I guess the only way will be to move away from bt for TV and move to SKY. A shame as I've been very pro bt until now.

Another annoying thing is that if you have two series linked programmes with the same name ( ie s1 and s6 of wheeler dealers) they are put on the same set of tiles. Perhaps it did this before, however now it's really difficult to see which is the new series. Also no actual way to filter buy watched programmes so how are you meant to clear HD space ?

The programme descriptions seem to have got WORSE ! They now seem to have stopped even trying to put the episode numbers in.

I don't know abut the new Sqy Q but certainly the normal Sky HD has a traditional list format, with a thumbnail that pops up when you highlight a programme in your planner if I remember correctly. ( what a good idea!)

This update is just badly designed and poorly implemented. The testing seems to have centered around the question 'can we get away with this?'

They should have hired a proper User Interface specialist to get it right in the first place since it' going to difficult to fix this now IMHO.

Having said that it's still probably cheaper than Sky even if I negotiate a 60% discount so since I don't want Sky 1 then I guess I'll probably stay with BT.

Well said, I wonder if some remote's don't have a guide button?

Must admit I've never even used it before.I also just discovered that there is also a close button that goes straight back to TV!

Go to solution
Got the new bt vision update yesterday, now the red button plus on bbc no longer works. Just the old style red button text us available.
Anyone else having the same problem or know how to get red button + back on?

Have done and no mention if red button + not working, but mine has gone back to the old rubbish red button text, no matter what bbc channel is selected. Tried a soft reset too but still does'nt work.
