It will not record a programme unless I physically switch on the channel and press record.
If I'm watching a channel and scroll through the TV guide / press record on a channel I'm not watching nothing happens.
Any guidance gratefully recieved!!

That sounds a bit like the universal fix, disconnect power, wait 30 seconds or so & reconnect.

You are probably looking at peforming maintenance resets on your box.
Before that you could try retuning your box to see if that makes any difference
First a retune with the aeral removed -- that should leave you with no freeview channels and
then connect the aerial feed again and perform a second retune which should repoulate your guide with the available Freeview channels.
