you view activation

after having bt vision for 18 months upgraded to bt infinity to get sports channels. bt infinity installed and no sports channels on vision box, after a phone call to bt am told my vision box is too old and will not upgrade so will have to have a new you view box, its free but will have to pay activation fee, which i complained about because have already paid activation fee for vision box. you view box delivered set up and terrible picture, all white is now pink and other colours have pink tinge to them . so after checking all connections several times decided to wait a couple of days and try again. no different so contacted bt where i was put through to the technical people. what a waste of time, after 45 minutes of having to try hdmi cable which gave me no picture at all, scart cable which gave pink picture, resetting box, retuning box, turning it off and on at back still same. had to leave it on 1hour then they would phone me back to see if everything all right. no still pink so then am told i will have to return vision box  then youview box will be activated then it should work. so got to wait for a jiffy bag to send it back in then take to post officeand when they get it back my you view box will be activated,so in the mean  time i have to watch a terrible pink picture. am i just being fobbed off . wish i'd never bothered with infinity

Re: you view activation

I believe  you having infinity and still having an old Bt Vision box has nothing whatsoever to do with your Youview box problems. Your new Youview box should work perfectly well as a Freeview player and recorder straight out of the box once you connect to a suitable aerial and tune it. The advice I would have expected the support people to come up with after all the checks on connections & restart attempts etc would be to perform a maintenance mode recovery.

Are the BT TV experts still around on the forums  cos I think they could advise ?

Re: you view activation

Hi Tess14,

Zulu is correct in that the the youview box problems are unrelated to account activation.

I have never before seen any pink tinges to images. Would you be able to post a photo?

Also as Zulu mentioned, you could try a maintainance mode reset if you are confortable with following the process steps here :- http://videos.youview.com/support/maintenance_mode.pdf

Please let us know how it goes.

Steve M said: "I have never before seen any pink tinges to images. Would you be able to post a photo?" Well you should be aware as a "BT TV expert' because it's a known issue which has been flagged to YouView previously on their own forums:

You guys really need to improve your product knowledge of the YouView boxes and stop focussing on the Vision+ boxes, until then you have no businesses passing yourselves off as "TV experts" who can help your customers.

Re: you view activation

Martin,

I'm not saying that it doesn't happen; I'm saying that I, personally, have never seen it happen on any of my ~100 youview boxes and would be really interested in seeing a photo of what it looks like.

And in that response you prove that you have insufficient product knowledge of the box BT is supplying TODAY to its customers and why the claim of being a TV expert is simply untrue.

Had you better known the product you could have actually helped the customer rather than asking him/her to educate you with a photo.

Re: you view activation

I get a pink screen regularly. Usually fixes itself quite quickly
Please be polite and respectful to others who are here to help, it does nothing for the ethos of the board when people snipe.

Stuart

The "other" in this case is a paid member of BT staff who appears to know close to nothing about the product he's here's tp help suport.

They should know about such basic issues and if they don't they're neither "expert" nor much use.

If it's a YouView box there is NOTHING on the line or account that activates the HDMI or will resolve the pink tinge. If you were told this, you were lied to.

The box won't display correctly if you have both the Scart and HDMI plugged in at the same time, also are you sure that when connecting via HDMI you're switching your TV to the HDMI source or 'channel' ?

Do you have a spare TV you can try connecting the box to, just to rule out the chances of the box being faulty.
