BT TV on 3rd party router.

Hi

Can someone tell me will BT TV work if I use a 3rd party router, I use a Netgear VDSL as I find it much more stable than the smart hub.

Thanks.

Re: BT TV on 3rd party router.

BT TV will definitely work on some 3rd party routers but not all.

What is the Netgear model you have?

Re: BT TV on 3rd party router.

Works on the TP-Link VR900, but not without some angst, particularly when doing things like flashing new firmware. Did this a while back, BT TV stopped working with the usual errors. The issue was that for some reason the country under TIME setting had defaulted. Changed back to UK and BT TV burst back into life.

no idea why that should make a difference but there you go....

have a look ok in your router settings for your LAN to see if there is an IGMP Snooping option. If so, it's likely BT TV will work, but not guaranteed.

Re: BT TV on 3rd party router.

I use a Netgear Orbi as router (plus a Vigor 130 modem).   This works really well with BT-TV, including UHD BT-sport.

There is a specific option in the setup pages to enable BT IGMP...

Other than that, the Vigor 130 needs to be fully bridged to support IGMP (instructions easily found online)
