Bt wifi calling.

Looking to purchase a Samsung Galaxy A20e but cannot seem to find any guarantee that it will support BT wifi calling.  The phone signal where I live is atrocious, but wifi is strong. Tried 'on line chat'. They say they are not technically trained and to ring Samsung. Samsung say that I should contact BT as connectivity depends on the provider.

An up to date list of phones would be helpful, but the last reference to my problem was in 2018.

Bt Shop give no specs regarding connectivity. Can anybody help please?

Re: Bt wifi calling.

I don't believe BT have maintained a definitive list.

I have a Nokia which, I'm told by the MyBT app, does not support Wi-Fi calling. Yet, if I pull the notification area down during a call at home, it says "Wi-Fi call in progress"  so I'm inclined to think that BT have a little more work to do in that area

Re: Bt wifi calling.

Many thanks for that. The ONLY reason I need another phone is for BT wifi calling, which is not supported on my current Samsung. Seems very odd that BT don't seem to have any desire to confirm. I certainly won't be purchasing a new one on the strength of a hope that it works! The odd thing is that they advertise wifi calling (with bells on!) for the A20e in the business section at £35PM as opposed to the personal section, which is £17PM.

Re: Bt wifi calling.

Hi @Jagnut1

My understanding was that it was mostly the firmware that determined whether wifi calling would work, the general rule being that if you bought the handset from BT then it should work. There was a very lengthy thread on wifi calling, some got their phones to work by flashing to new firmware.

I would find it very difficult to believe that BT were supplying A20e's in two variants, certainly not when it comes to wifi calling.

Re: Bt wifi calling.

Well there you have it. A20e on business contract with wifi calling, even on the underground etc at £35pm. Personal side at £17pm, no mention of wifi calling or anything. It's on their site. Why can't they just verify that all will be good if I purchase?

I've looked at half a dozen android phones through BT and none mention wifi calling, but I don't believe for a minute that none of them would work. BT suggest that you use the My BT app to see whether your phone is 4G or wifi calling compatible, which is the most ridiculous advice going for anyone wanting to join or upgrade through BT.

Re: Bt wifi calling.

Precisely. Bt app tells me my phone is non compatible, but seem incapable of telling me if a new phone categorically will be ok. Think I won't bother with a new purchase if they can't wake up! Sad really. Iv'e been with BT for the last 25 years.

Re: Bt wifi calling.

It is crazy. I have a Samsung S7 and according to the app and MY BT my phone is not compatible. But in reality it does.

What makes it worse though is that the app doesn't actually check compatibility, it just checks the model of phone against the list that BT say are compatible phones, a list that they don't seem to update!
