FTTH with DSL-N66U

I have BT FTTH, i.e. I have an OpenReach ONT connected to a BT HomeHub.  I believe the OpenReach box allows multiple routers to be connected to it, so I have connected a DSL-N66U I have on one of the other ports and left my BT HomeHub connection alone.

I can't get the DSL to connect, but that may be because I am using the wrong settings on it. Any advice?

You can only connect one router to the ONT.

Welcome to this user forum.

You can only connect one router, to the ONT. There is just a single public IP address available.

Re: FTTH with DSL-N66U

Welcome to the forum.

You can only have one router handling the PPP connection and the BT Hub is already doing that.  If you need the N66U to increase the Wi-Fi coverage then you need to go into the settings and configure it as an access point.

Re: FTTH with DSL-N66U

Thanks for the quick replies.  Looks like what the installation engineer told me was wrong or I misunderstood.

Can I replace the HomeHub with the DSL, then, so that I can make use of the extra function on that?

If I did that, are these the right settings for it?

Presumably I'd just unplug the HomeHub and perhaps powercycle the ONT.

Yes just plug in the Asus instead of the HH. Don't power cycle the ONT.

There should be some other settings on the Asus, PPPoE, username bthomehub@btbroadband.com and password bt

I would guess the transfer mode is not set conrrectly, as its expecting to see an ADSL input. What are the options on that setting?

Re: FTTH with DSL-N66U

See https://www.asus.com/uk/support/FAQ/1016311/

"Set Transfer Mode to Ethernet WAN, and set Enable to Yes. Then choose your WAN Connection Type (Automatic IP/Static IP/PPPoE)."

VLAN would be 101

Thanks for your continued patient help.  So now I have this, but still no joy making the connection.
