Full Fibre, powerline slowing down ethernet connection

Just moved to BT Full Fibre

Testing the download speed on my PC it's consistently coming in at 40mbps, which is odd. It's connected by powerline adapter to the main BT Hub (not using any extension leads, both ends are directly in the wall). I plugged my computer straight into the hub just as a test and got the full 900mbps.

Any ideas on solutions?

@OsianLlyr23

You have reached the limit for those powerline adapters.

You would be very lucky to find any powerline adapters that would pass that sort of speed. Best to run an Ethernet cable if you can.

Ah ok - i did buy ones with gigabit ethernet ports, but i assume they still won’t be fast enough?

That means nothing, it just means that the physical interface is a gigabit, its the actual throughput that is the important figure.

These are some which may be faster https://shop.bt.com/products/tp-link-av1300-gigabit-powerline-starter-kit-tl-pa8010p-kit-v2-F9DS.htm...

but the performance depends on the mains wiring, and the amount of electrical interference.
