Hello BT Community 👋,
I'm sadly leaving BT for Virgin Media, I have been offered much faster speeds and talk weekends for free including line rental included. The friendly chap 👦 on the phone said that Virgin will talk to BT automatically for me. I need the faster speed offered that BT don't offer.
Would I still need to talk to BT even though Virgin Media is talking too BT.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Have you made enquiries about the magnitude of your cancellation fee?
Personally, I wouldn't rely on others to do what is no doubt my contractual responsibility, do it yourself and back it up in email.
PS. Good luck but to be honest the words frying pan and fire come to mind.
Hello @imjolly @Anonymous,
Umm.....no I haven't but they told me that they'll speak to BT on my behalf. I've worked out the fee myself though. Will I have to call BT 📞 still?
I would ring them and get them to confirm the terms of your leaving by e-mail
You will need to contact BT and tell them you are leaving to go to Virgin. Virgin will not do that for you.

Hello @gg30340 @Anonymous,
No need the Accounts Manager at Virgin said that Virgin will speak to BT on my behalf, also nope I don't need to speak to BT that's what he told me.
If you are so sure why did you post the question? Your choice but I wouldn't bet on it.
@Anonymous
Are you trying to port your phone number to virgin

If you asked Virgin Media to port your existing number, then no you don't have to contact BT, when the number is switched it will stop your broadband and if you have TV, the BTTV will also cease.
Any @btinternet.com email addresses will switch to free basic email.
If you have BT Mbile, they will remain active as there's no broadband requirement, after 30 days the £5 broadband discount(s) are removed, after 60 days any BT cloud data is deleted.
If you've not asked Virgin Media to port your number, BT will not be aware so you will need to call and give 30 days notice to close the account.
