BT Protect (McAfee) only updates automatically if the machine concerned is online at the specified update time. I think it should update on startup if an update time has passed since the last update. The software maintains a history log so this should be fairly easy. I have queried this with BT, who referred me to McAfee, and McAfee who referred me to BT !
