Thunderbird is an email client from the Mozilla stable, the designers of web browser Firefox
Nothing about this "upgrade" is an improvement.
Very annoying not to have tabs for open mails.
Also I cannot email members of our choir from my phone as the mobile versions has no access to groups. Luckily, the inbuilt Samsung mail on the phone has this facility. I had to build the group lists again on the Samsung contacts list.
Strangely, my wife's sub-account still has the preferable old arrangement. How can we revert?

You can't and your wife's account will be migrated eventually.
Make a Whatsapp group lot easier than emails anyway
Thanks for reply ... oh dear. One hopes they see sense (false optimism, no doubt).
I'm pretty sure we are stuck with it. The problem is that even with the advice on here, many people (including me) aren't confident navigating their way around a new system to adapt it and make it work for them - they just want to log on and for it to be user-friendly. I didn't have any problems with the old one at all, it was fine from the start.
You are "stuck" with it. Your accounts have been migrated away from Yahoo and they will not be going back to the Yahoo system.
Did you look at the links that I posted earlier. They do offer some information and help how to navigate your way around the new system.
It is not easy to make a mistake that can not be recovered by just unticking what you ticked and if you are about to delete something such as a folder, you will be asked if you are sure and you will have to acknowledge it before it will happen so if in doubt don't do it.

Has anyone had the same problem as me, losing all my emails on the webmail, but still there on my phone and tablet?
Also no auto fill in send to box.
BT allegedly listened to people and have improved on that basis, who on earth did they listen too???
I would suggest exporting all mail and contacts to a gmail account for safety
Thanks will do
