Is anyone having problems in sending emails. I use Thunderbird and suddenly sending emails is failing with a message that the connexion to the SMTP server has failed during the operation. I have made no changes.

After a number of trouble-free months, this problem has suddenly appeared again. No changes to my system whatsover but suddenly the SMTP server is failing to authenticate my credentials and refusing to send emails. Is BT having a problem with its SMTP servers?

Probably just one machine in the server farm playing up.
You could try getting a different public IP address which will possibly connect to a different server. Disconnect your hub from line for about 15 minutes to get a different IP address.
Thanks for this. I am really reluctant to keep disconnecting my router as it now supports my regular telephone line as well as my broadband. This problem of not being able to send emails is intermittent (sometimes I need to try up to 20 times to send the same draft email!) and seems to occur every few months. This time the problem has persisted foe around 10 days. When sending is failing, it also affects my iphone so it really has to be a BT problem but they seem unable to fix it on a permanent basis.
This problem is not becoming a real nuisance! Around 1 in 10 attempts to send an email is successful. I cannot understand why this cannot be put right. I go for some months and then the problem keeps reoccuring. Can one of the moderators please pick up this issue for me (again!) and investigate what is happening on my account?
