There is a strong chance that I am missing an obvious step but I cannot connect my new TP Link router to the internet.

I have set the WAN connection to PPPoE and used broadbanduser@btbroadband.com with BT as the password.

When I try to connect it is saying it is disconnected.

If I try to follow the quick step up steps it is saying that the cable is disconnected.

Am I missing something?

The router is plugged into the Mastersocketc5. Do I need a modem also?

Very confused so any help would be gratefully received. Thank you

That device is just a router,  not a combined modem/router, you need a standalone modem as well.

There are not many choices of standalone modems, your choice is a used Openreach HG612 from ebay, a Draytek Vigor130 or a Netgear DM200. Various Zyxzel devices can also be used in bridge mode.

You might want to consider a combined VDSL modem/router instead.
