new YouView Box, remote control diabolical

Hi,

just received a new YouView box from BT,

I just can't get the RC to work, it's patchy at best, but mostly inoperable.

Support have sent out a new RC, same problems.

Chasing up the call, I now have an engineer visit scheduled for ...... the 11th November!!

the box is basically unusable, the buttons on top of it work perfectly, it just seems to be the RC, Ihave tried the solutions on the BT site - eneregy-saving bulbs (!) etc, no joy.

has anyone any ideas? I'm seriously considering cancelling it all and going somewhere else..

(I've reset YV box and RC also, before someone suggests that!)

Is there a protective film on the front of the Youview box to protect it from scratches while in transit. If so, peel it off.

pretty sure we pulled off all protective stuff, I will check..

hi i have just joined bt aswell and im also having a nightmare with my you view remote ive tryed everything on bt help site nothing works they keep sending me new ones but they also dont work u also have engineer coming  on the 3rd November hopefully they can resolve it

yup all protective plastice removed, still no joy

Also make sure there isn't protective film over the the end of the remote control itself.

yup, all clear, no other protective film interfering in the path between remote and receiver either..

does it work if closer to the box?

nope, distance is not a factor, nor vector! Pointing in various directions gives the same (dismal) results.

occassionally (VERY occassionally) it will work for VERY short periods, more due to luck than any other factors I can determine.

I have tried varying lighting conditions also, but no luck there either.

all in all, pretty p****d off with the whole thing..

Same here joined yesterday, remote useless, the buttons sometimes do something, most of the time not.
Been on the web chat and on the phone all morning, got passed all around and had to give up waiting after an hour.
Just moved from talktalk and I thought there customer service was bad but just as bad at BT.
