BT want me to switch to EE broadband but EE can't come close to my current speed?

 This doesn't make sense to me at all. I'm currently on Fibre 250 and get around 250-290 Mbps pretty much all the time.

 The best EE can offer me is 74Mbps and have no idea how I am getting a 250 speed package from BT. What's more BT don't know why EE can't offer me the same speed? I thought it basically all used the same infrastructure?

 There's obviously no way I'd consider taking such a huge downgrade, but at some point I'd like to switch to EE as I'd like to get an eSim for my Apple watch as part of my package. Any ideas from the clever folk here as to why I can't get a comparable package from EE? Cheers

Re: BT want me to switch to EE broadband but EE can't come close to my current speed?

There is obviously some error if EE can’t offer you FTTP when you already have it from BT …..is there anything unusual about your address , like a flat number , or it has a suffix like 13 ‘A’ because it was built after No 13 ?

Fibre 250 is not a product that I’m aware that Openreach have offered , ( that’s not to say they didn’t once offer it , I’m not claiming to know every product BT has ever sold ) but confirm you do have an Openreach ONT that your BT router is connected to it

 My area was one of the first (I believe) to offer this package. The green box in the street is right next to my home so I always have very good speeds. But after talking to someone here, I believe it is because I'm on GFast and not Full Fibre.

@Retrovertigo

" I believe it is because I'm on GFast"

I don't think that Openreach are offering G.Fast anymore?

If they are not, then AFAIK, whilst you will be able to keep your existing package with your existing supplier, any change of supplier, even BT to EE, will be a new service.

Yep , @Paul608085  has nailed it , Gfast …..this  is now is a sunset product, not many ISP offered  it originally , and chances are no one is interested in offering it to new customers now  , including apparently EE , if you want to remain on Gfast you will have to stay where you are with BT , potentially on an out of contract basis , until inevitably Gfast is switched off by OR , even for existing customers like yourself, hopefully FTTP will become available to you before then

Re: BT want me to switch to EE broadband but EE can't come close to my current speed?

 I have to say it's nuts that they only now offer speeds in most areas of up to 74Mbps. That seems like a ginormous step backwards from just a couple of years or so ago!

 It seems to be taking them forever to get gigabit where I live, despite being so close to coverage in central Manchester.

If they did decide to switch off Gfast before gigabit arrived I'd have no choice but to switch back to Virgin 🤢

I could never see how G.Fast made economic sense in the first place. An extremely limited product that only benefitted a few folks that already had a relatively high speed in the first place. Hence the extremely few vendors of third party modems producing products.
