After changing my password all the messages in my inbox have disappeared and any new message that arrives in my webmail or phone also disappear about 1 minute after it arrives.
I have Thunderbird on my PC and the inbox is all there and new messages do not disappear. I have backed up the inbox now in case something changes.
The ONLY thing I changed was my password and now the webmail and phone mail are completely unusable.
I tried phoning and the guy I spoke to was not able to fix it and I'm not sure even really understood the problem, but did say he'd forward it for further tech support.
Anyone else had this? Is there a solution?

It sounds like you have your phone set up as an IMAP account and your Thunderbird set up as a POP3 account.
IMAP accounts synchronise with the BT servers, webmail, and each other where as POP3 accounts do not. They only download the email from the BT servers onto the devices that they are installed on.
Check in Thunderbird's settings that you have the the box "keep a copy on the server" ticked. If it is not ticked it downloads the emails then deletes them from the BT servers and as a result they are no longer on the BT server for other devices ie your phone or webmail so see them.

It appears you are correct and the problem is solved; thank you for your quick and accurate reply.
I am still baffled as to how this happened but I can at least work going forward.
