Unable to connect to websites via Ethernet on Smart Hub 2

In the past if I wanted to download something chunky, I connected my laptop to the Smart Hub 2 by Ethernet cable to do this.  Yesterday when I tried to do that it failed, and I do not understand why.

The toolbar symbol in the bottom right-hand corner changed from wi-fi to Ethernet.  Connecting to any website, including BT Home, just received an unable to connect or time out message.  Settings showed I had internet access okay and running the trouble shooter just told me the problem was with the website not my laptop.  Removing the Ethernet cable and returning to wi-fi enabled me to connect fine after a reboot.  I tried this with my daughter’s laptop and had the same result, so it is not a problem with my laptop.

My main PC is permanently connected by Ethernet as it has no wi-fi, so I know the ports work on the hub.  Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

Re: Unable to connect to websites via Ethernet on Smart Hub 2

What do you get as results if you type ipconfig /all into a command prompt both when connected via WiFi and also ethernet?

What do you get if you type ping 8.8.8.8 with Ethernet connected?

Re: Unable to connect to websites via Ethernet on Smart Hub 2

I sent the readings across out of interest but of course the Ethernet connection is working fine today. I have not done anything different apart from get a good nights sleep. I am very confused by this.

Re: Unable to connect to websites via Ethernet on Smart Hub 2

I notice that your Ethernet connection is static rather than DHCP and has no IP4 gateway or DNS server configured, also your WiFi seems active at the same time as the Ethernet. I have no idea if either of those points is relevant, but on my laptop when Ethernet is active WiFi is disabled - both are set for DHCP so would have the same gateway/DNS configuration. I have not tried the type of configuration you have so my comments might be totally irrelevant😁

Re: Unable to connect to websites via Ethernet on Smart Hub 2

Settings shows the Ethernet as Automatic (DHCP), IPv4 Address is showing. Copy of properties below:

Link speed (Receive/Transmit): 1000/1000 (Mbps)
IPv6 address: 2a00:23c7:5ba1:ab01:a17d:2394:207c:e905
Link-local IPv6 address: fe80::2eac:e4c6:9dcc:c531%7
IPv6 DNS servers: fe80::ee6c:9aff:feb1:546e%7
fe80::ee6c:9aff:feb1:546e%7
IPv4 address: 192.168.137.1
Primary DNS suffix: home
DNS suffix search list: home
Manufacturer: Realtek
Description: Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller
Driver version: 10.35.510.2019
Physical address (MAC): 7C-8A-E1-68-38-87

Having plugged the Ethernet cable back in and out again, I have returned to the state where internet sites are not connecting. I will try a reboot. I did notice on Ethernet just now that I am unable to connect to OneDrive or my networked printer. All very odd.

Re: Unable to connect to websites via Ethernet on Smart Hub 2

In your earlier posting of the results of ipconfig with the  Ethernet adapter under DHCP Enabled it says No.  Also there is no Gateway address or DNS server address for IPV4. (Section copied and placed below to save scrolling about). This section also shows the WiFi still connected.

Something weird appears to be happening with your Ethernet connection - I am not sure what. Could it be a faulty cable (unlikely to cause these problems), or a faulty driver (is there an update?).

Re: Unable to connect to websites via Ethernet on Smart Hub 2

Does the WiFi automatically disconnect when connecting Ethernet, or does it have to be switched off manually within Wireless section of Hub Manager?

Re: Unable to connect to websites via Ethernet on Smart Hub 2

With Ethernet connected if I click on connections it shows wi-fi as disconnected.
