That reply was to the post about the 14k modems, it wsn't meant as a direct comment or complaint about BT - but then, we all knew the speed we would be getting back in those days.
Now, you all can fudge the figures and cover it up with the cop-out of "up to".
It's irrelevant to both posts that all the ISPs do it. It's still wrong, and still a cop-out, a legalese safety net for ISPs to offer rubbish service.
I must admit to a bit of a feeling of sour grapes over this - back in Australia I was on 4 core copper line, about 4 miles from the exchange (about twice what I am here), and on a 24 megabit adsl2 connect I was getting 18 megabit.
Then I come here, where I expected the services to be better, after all this IS the UK, and get a piddly pathetic 2.5 megabit on a 20 megabit line, BUT even that's only at night time!.
