I've been noticing since the past 2 weeks when playing different games on the ps4
in a lot of the games things slow down and the response time is very very slow
It's not an issue of speed. We are getting the right speeds its something else
Its either the latency or the ping.
I'm not on full fibre but never had this type of issue this bad.
I've changed the hub to bt hub 6 but the problem is still there
not sure if its the over usage of internet in my area but something is not right and needs investigating.
chat advisors are no help they just check the speed or refresh the network which makes no difference.
I'm using an ethernet cable ports are open.
Hi @Sml5678
Welcome to the community.
Using an ethernet cable, as you have been, is the best way to get the best speeds and ping. When you run a speed test on different devices, are you getting similar speeds? What are those speeds?
Chris
Speed is good but after doing speed test I can see the upload speed is flacutating
173mbps to 15mbps
Is that both on the wired Playstation test and on a WiFi/ethernet test on another device, @Sml5678?
Chris
thats wireless on a computer
everything was going well until the 28th January something happend
BT chat advisors told me theres nothing wrong in my area
all games just slow down a number of times during the game which hasnt happend in such a long time
not sure if its the PS4 update which caused this
will be trying a new ethernet cable see if it makes a difference
but I believe the issue is bigger than that because the internet is not running as smoothly as it was
Just as a matter of interest, is your computer wireless driver(s) up to date? Wireless drivers are frequently updated, my own laptop and desktop Intel wireless drivers have been updated at least a dozen times in the last 2 years alone.
Thanks for the update, @Sml5678
I had similar gameplay problems with my wired PS5 lately, and a replacement ethernet cable fixed the problem.
Let us know what happens with that new cable. Even if it doesn't improve things, they're handy to have and it will at least eliminate that the cable is causing the problem.
Chris
This is the problem its not the ethernet
Based on recent customer experiences and reports, EE broadband response times (latency) for gaming are highly variable, often ranging from excellent (12-25ms) to poor (over 150-300ms) due to significant, intermittent, and recurring, latency spikes. While some users experience stable, low-ping gaming, many others report unplayable conditions on both FTTP and 5G connections, particularly during peak evening hours.
something happend to my internet during jan 24th 2026
online games are now unplayable
OK thanks for the update, @Sml5678
I can only suggest speaking with our technical support team, so they can check everything from our side and run through some more account-specific troubleshooting.
Let us know how you get on.
Chris
They keep saying your network is fine good speeds
but its not an issue of speed the response time is messed up
something happend between Jan 24-28th
everything was good even with the old hub
The response time in the game is at the worst its ever been
its not just 1 game its every game
