RJ11 cable query
I am connecting an
Open Reach Mk 4 double Master Socket 5C
to a new BT Smart Hub 2
using an RJ11 to RJ11 ADSL 2+ cable, which has 4 gold pins
This works intermittently.
My old cable, which has 2 gold pins, works every time,
even though one of the plastic holding clips is broken.
The supplier of the cable says that it may a compatibility issue?
BT are sending me a new cable, but could not explain why my new cable would not work properly.
Anybody care to offer an explanation.
Thanks.
Tony

Re: RJ11 cable query
I could understand if the cable didn't work at all as there are 2 versions of RJ11 cable, straight and crossover, but not intermittently faulty.

Re: RJ11 cable query
As Licquorice said, there have been instances in the past where 4 core RJ11’s don’t work at all with some (old) equipment, but for it to work intermittently is another issue. Couple of suggestions:
- Have a close look at the plug pins on both ends see if there is any crud on them. It can happen that a bit of muck makes for a poor contact.
- The RJ11 socket on the Mk4 is actually one of those that can take both an RJ45 or an RJ11. This sometimes makes the RJ11 a bit of a loose fit, so if it’s knocked it might be losing contact.
