HI
I have FTTC, am about 800m from the exchange in a home with underground cabling.
During the day time I have acceptable broadband 52Mbs/15mbs with latency 71/552. But as the day progresses, these figures drop. Last night 16.8mbs/13.4 with latency 1089/2628ms. At that stage watching a Facebook reel is impossible as it stutters all of the time. Oddly, on my phone I have fringe 4G and get 9mbs/1.06, if that. but reels never stutter. Even though the data rates are awful, the throughput on the likes of reels is usable.
Any idea why my BT Broadband is so bad and can I get help from BT when the problems only get really bad in the evenings? It seems that when speed guarantees are discussed, there is no comment on what happens when everyone comes home and starts watching netflix.
Thanks
Hello @powellj3.
Welcome to the community.
I am sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with your home broadband.
Have you tried checking the Service Status?
Speak soon,
Katie
This has been going on for months. It’s not a temporary thing.
in fact ever since FTTP was rolled out to my village.
If others in your area are also experiencing this I would recommend giving us a call so this can be looked into further @powellj3.
Katie
Are the devices which are having problems connected using ethernet or WiFi?
I’ve no idea. I’ll ask on the village FB group
I’ve tested on my iPhone on wifi at different locations in my home, including adjacent to the router. I’ve also tested with my iMac which is on Ethernet.
I’ve rebooted my router and also factory reset it.
I’ve tried switching rotating addresses on and off. And switching off limit I/p address tracking.
Thanks @powellj3.
This definitely needs further investigation, so like @Katie_B recommended I would recommend reporting this to our team.
If you would prefer not to call, when experiencing issues I would recommend sending a text with HELP to 61998.
Here we'll guide you through some troubleshooting, test your line, and if needs be help you arrange an engineer appointment or call back from our team.
Peter
