Hello 

why is the all4 app only in standard definition

With no hd versions of more 4 etc it would make sense for the all4 app to show hd shows on the app on youview

i have contacted channel 4 but is there any technical reasons this can’t be done

It's not a technical issue, it's a commercial decision by channel 4. Ch4 have commercial agreements in place with Sky etc which means the HD versions of a lot of their content is hidden behind a paywall which includes All4. Same applies to the ITV Hub.

thats a pity so many shows beautifully filmed and only in standard definition on a pro box that has excellent picture quality on all other apps

You can thank Channel 4 for the genius move. If you want truly beautiful, go to BBC iPlayer and enable the Beta test and have a look at their uhd content. The nature stuff is stunning and shows what uhd is truly capable of. You're TV will need to support HLG though as BBC use that rather than HDR10
