@JTS1wrote:So you have deleted one of your Backup files from your PC and it was removed from "Documents"? I think not.
You are confusing me with someone else.
I am not claiming anything about the behaviour of BT Cloud, I am saying that some of your statements are wrong.

I have tested mine in various ways to see if all of my Backup Folder's sub-folders files are also backed up and they are, irrespective of their positions in the structure.
Without exception they all appear in the "Documents" page, as do all of there amended versions too.
I suggest that you back up a .jpg file and then try to find it in "Documents"
@Earthlingwrote:After all this I am now satisfied that I can safely use the beta as a relable backup tool
Have you experimented with Microsoft Word documents?
In particular, if you save whilst editing, does that update get backed up?
@Earthlingwrote:After a week or so of testing the beta I felt I understood it sufficiently to clean everything up and start again from scratch, with interesting results. So, with no previous backup files in the cloud; two subfolders of My Documents added in preferences and the three default folders removed; Sync left unchecked; and the backups set fo Continuous upload I set it off. I was a bit puzzled at some of the files I could see being backed up as I was pretty sure they weren't in any of my nominated folders. Took a little while to figure out they were actually in my currently unused OneDrive folder in C:\Users\etc - which had not been selected for backup! 😮
There is more. Contrary to several assertions in this thread that in these circumstances my files would not show in All My Files, in fact that is where they were, in folder order. Nothing showing at all in the BT Cloud folder.
After all this I am now satisfied that I can safely use the beta as a relable backup tool I have no present use for Sync so not able to comment on that but hope this will be helpful for users simply wanting a backup capability.
I'm afraid that you have definitely synced your files.
It isn't possible to backup Folders in the BT Cloud, you can only Backup files from Folders. See Pages 30 and 31 of BT Cloud User Guide.
If you think that you have backed up your files, delete any one of your files from C:\Users\username\BT Cloud and they should not be deleted from the BT Cloud client.
If you have Synced your files, it will be removed completely from all of your repositories, including the BT Cloud client. Again, please read the BT Cloud User Guide, where both Backup and Sync are clearly defined.

I have read the user guide thoroughly, much more thoroughly I suggest than you have read what I said. There are no files at all in C:\Users\username\BT Cloud so your suggested test cannot be carried out and Sync was unchecked. I have NOT synced my files.
You clearly believe that the user guide is gospel, which it is not. I suggest you put aside your preconceived ideas and conduct a test along the lines I followed.

Apologies for the messy reply - still adapting to how this forum works

Even though you may have saved the file locally it looks as if it will not be backed up while still open. Should get backed up after being closed but that might take some time. I'm still waiting for my test docx to get backed up after closing it. I'll keep an eye on it.

From the outset of setting your Preferences, Photo and Videos their Backups are treated differently. They can be created by placing them in Folders, together with other documents, or by setting them for Backup in Pictures Folders, or Sub-Folders. Whichever folder you choose all files, in it and it’s sub-folders will all be backed up.
Once they have been backed up, they can be found on the BT Cloud Main Page by clicking on Photos and Video and selecting All. Then click on Filter by and choose the repository that they were backed up from. They will appear in tile format, as shown below:
Clicking the box of any of these files, will open a bar at the top of screen, showing when it and any subsequent versions were uploaded, as well as other choices.
Care should be taken with these, as they can be deleted here, but they will not be deleted from the repository from which they were Backed up from.

Yes, but please be aware of the guidance given in the BT Cloud User Guide to prevent excess numbers of versions being created. They can be temporarily downloaded and returned after you are finally satisfied with your changes. Please also be aware that only a PDF file of it is visible in the cloud.

It did get backed up eventually, but only after a restart. I had left it for at least two hours syncing but it did not detect the changed docx automatically so I'm still a bit dubious about how well it copes with this situation. This treatment applies to any editable type of file, not just Word documents.

Interesting, thank you.
I had not tried a restart of my laptop; I only restart about once a week.
Regarding editable files, I found that .txt files are backed up as soon as they are saved, but Words and Excel files were only backed up when saved on exiting.
