So, with no previous backup files in the cloud; two subfolders of My Documents added in preferences and the three default folders removed; Sync left unchecked; and the backups set fo Continuous upload I set it off. I was a bit puzzled at some of the files I could see being backed up as I was pretty sure they weren't in any of my nominated folders. Took a little while to figure out they were actually in my currently unused OneDrive folder in C:\Users\etc - which had not been selected for backup! 😮
There is more. Contrary to several assertions in this thread that in these circumstances my files would not show in All My Files, in fact that is where they were, in folder order. Nothing showing at all in the BT Cloud folder.
After all this I am now satisfied that I can safely use the beta as a relable backup tool I have no present use for Sync so not able to comment on that but hope this will be helpful for users simply wanting a backup capability.
I'm afraid that you have definitely synced your files.

If you think that you have backed up your files, delete any one of your files from C:\Users\username\BT Cloud and they should not be deleted from the BT Cloud client.
If you have Synced your files, it will be removed completely from all of your repositories, including the BT Cloud client. Again, please read the BT Cloud User Guide, where both Backup and Sync are clearly defined.

You clearly believe that the user guide is gospel, which it is not. I suggest you put aside your preconceived ideas and conduct a test along the lines I followed.
What types of files do you believe that you are backing up?

That is what I have found too, but the files in All My Files are grouped by originating computer and folder. Files in Documents do not show their originating computer or folder, making them pretty useless imo.

- "Documents" shows the subset of those files that BT Cloud considers to be "documents"
- "Music" and "Photos & Videos" are other subsets.
No, I stand by every word that I have previously written.
Backup files are within in the BT Cloud Main Page in "Documents".
Sync files and folders are within in the BT Cloud Main Page in "All My Files".
At no point in our discussions did you mention Photo, or Video Files, but I have now additionally told you that these can be found in the BT Cloud Main Page within the Photos and Videos, by selecting All and then selecting the appropriate repositories using the Filter by feature.
I note that you did not included all of the information that I provided to you, in your latest response.

Backup files are within in the BT Cloud Main Page in "Documents".
Sync files and folders are within in the BT Cloud Main Page in "All My Files".

Where in the user guide do you think it says this (please provide link to the guide, as it may be we are looking at different versions).
At no point in our discussions did you mention Photo, or Video Files,
That may be true, but you made the statement (at 99) "If you were using Backup, your files would have been in "Documents"."
You put no conditions on that statement and therefore the statement was (and is) untrue.
but I have now additionally told you that these can be found in the BT Cloud Main Page within the Photos and Videos, by selecting All and then selecting the appropriate repositories using the Filter by feature
You have, but it was unnecessary as I was not asking for it and I already knew it. I was pointing out that .jpg files are not shown in "Documents" and therefore your statement was false.
I note that you did not included all of the information that I provided to you, in your latest response

There is a golden rule for those who find themselves in the position you are now in -
"When you are in a hole the first thing to do is to stop digging"
To improve your understanding you really ought to conduct some tests, otherwise you will lose what little is left of your credibility.
I have finally got my backup working. Previously, via the web interface, I have been deleting all the folders within a particular backup and allowing them all to backup again. This has failed miserably and it seemed that the cloud didn't know what files had or had not been backed up so it sometimes stalled leaving many files not backed up. So I took a different approach. I completely uninstalled my desktop client and restarted my computer.
Using the web interface I deleted the entire mapping for the backup from within "All my files" (See screenshot)
Then installed the new Beta version of the desktop client and configured Backup. Set via the "Backup" option to backup Videos, Documents, & Pictures. Sync is not configured and disabled.
"Voila". Three folders in the "All Files" that show all my backed up documents. (ie Videos, documents & Pictures - have checked - they are all there). They also appear under documents. pictures etc from the home screen of the web interface.
I hope this might help someone!!!

You seem to have resolved my problem, namely only some directories being backed up and Cloud showing nonsensical directory sizes. After taking my daily backup to external drives I took up your suggestion, with slight apprehension, having 800GB backed up to the Cloud. Initially it claimed I only had 200GB left but logging out and in again showed 1000GB.
After the fresh install and setup it's now romping away.
Many thanks!
