BT Smart Hub 2 - cannot change wireless password

I received a BT Smart Hub 2 as BT are kindly going to upgrade us from standard FTTC ADSL to VSDL (Superfast Broadband) free of charge, and I was advised to replace the existing hub (BT Home Hub 4.0B) with the new one in readiness for switchover in July. I did that, and it connected to broadband without difficulty. However I wanted to change the wireless password back to what it was before, for convenience and to avoid having to change passwords on all the devices (2 phones, 3 tablets, Kindles, PVR, Wifi extender and PC). Logging into the router I could see how to do this. It didn't like my old password as insecure, and wouldn't let me use it at all, so I changed it slightly and it was accepted. Except that it wasn't - it wouldn't save it at all. Later after trawling this forum I discovered you have to turn off smart setup to change the password! Then I could do it. Crazy or what? What's the point of smart setup, and why is there no indication in the document provided or in the online setup procedure? And by the way, what's Wireless Mode (1, 2 or 3?)

Re: BT Smart Hub 2 - cannot change wireless password

I and many others agree that smart setup causes more problems than it helps.

the modes for wireless are I think explained in the hub if you select the mode   It is for older wireless devices which may have problems with the newer wireless connections

did you also change the new hub SSID to the same as the previous hub to help your wireless devices connect
