I have been using a BT4600 phone for over 2 years. Suddenly the answer machine has ceased to work and I find that callers are only receiving a message from 1571 that I am not available and to leave a voice mail message. Why? what is the point of having a recording machine. I do not suscribe to any 1571 service. How can I get back to 'Normal use'??
I have checked all the machine settings and they seem to be OK, but I did set the answer to '10 rings' as I canot get to the phone in the 7 rings used by 1571. It has been like that for 2 years, and working OK.
Hoping someone has an idea as to what has changed.
I am assuming that you get your phone service from BT Retail, and it comes down the phone line and not via the BT Digital Voice service, is that correct?
If you dial 17070, do you get your own phone number read out?
No, I get my service from iD Mobile, so I don't know how, or why 1571 gets involved. I have no agreement with them to use an answering service.
Sorry, I missed the question about using 17070. YES I get my correct number read out.

Does you phone actually ring when you get a call, and is the calling name or number displayed on the phone?

So you are not actually a BT Phone customer? This is a BT Retail Customer forum.

ID Mobile have their own forum https://community.idmobile.co.uk/
It does sound like an issue with their service, and not a problem with your phone.
Hi, @confused36 welcome to the community and thanks for posting. Who do you pay for your landline phone rental?
Thanks
Neil
Like I said, I am confused because the phone is a BT phone.
Thanks anyway.

Its just a BT Branded phone. If you think its a fault with the phone, then try the helpdesk number on this page.
It sounds more likely to be an issue which your phone service provider, perhaps with their equipment, especially if you have not subscribed to their answering service.
Have you tried power cycling the base unit, as that can sometimes get locked up?
