Can't connect my new router to the BT Broadband to use as my main router

Go to solution

Hi, I have recently bought an TP-Link Wireless N Router WR841N because I wasn't satisfied with the coverage of the BTHub 6. I even bought an rj11 to rj45 adsl cable to connect to router directly to my line, because I do not have a separated modem anyway, but no matter what I do the internet light keeps blinking in red on the router indicating that the connection cannot be established. I tried changing the settings of the new router, but that doesn't help either. Does anyone has any suggestions on what should I do?

You have bought a router when you should have bought a VDSL Modem router. Without a modem your router will not work.

Can I just simply buy a VDSL modem and connect the router to it instead?

Yes but there are not many VDSL modems to choose from.

You could try ebay for a second hand Openreach modem.

Thank you very much for the information. Also I was wondering if TP-Link td-w9960 will work fine without me having to buy a modem for it?

Or the TP Link TD W9970, which may be easier to obtain locally.
