Can't log on to library computer

I hope somebody can help. I recently bought my laptop and at the same time or perhaps just before changed my password. I can get into my emails fine at home. In the past I was also able to access emails on the library computers which I very occasionally use if I want to print something out (don't have a printer at home). The library computer lets me log in to their system and then the request for my BT login information comes up. I enter my email address and my password (which I have checked again and again) but when I press enter the same old 'Something has gone wrong' message comes up. It's driving me nuts. Is there something which has been set up on my new laptop - got the guys in the shop to do it - which is preventing this or is it something wrong with BT? I just don't understand what the issue is and this is taking me hours to sort. Thanks.

Re: Can't log on to library computer

If you can log onto and use your email on your home laptop there is obviously nothing wrong with your username and password.

The problem may be with the library computer. There will be no settings that you can change as the computer settings will be "locked" to prevent unauthorised users from "tampering" with them.

You could try using your "old" password which may be stored on the library's Internet browser's cookies  to see if that allows you to access your email account. If it does you should ask the library if they are able to clear the history and cookies from the computer so that you can use your "new" password.

Re: Can't log on to library computer

At my library I can simply log on to My BT to access my BT account and my BT emails using the public computers.  The system is set up so once you log out it forgets you and your details.  As gg says, certain settings are locked so you cannot tamper with them.  Ask the library staff (who are not internet technicians) to have a word with ITC who set the public computers up.

Re: Can't log on to library computer

Thank you for your reply. I got a friend to help me today and he was thinking along the same lines. When we got to the library I tried again to log in to my BT account using the usual email address and password and the same 'Something is wrong' message (in red) came up. He then tried with his BT email address and password and the same thing happened. He then had a thought and tried his hotmail address and lo and behold it worked. He then set me up with a hotmail address and it worked for me too - I was in! So, it seems the library system and BT are not cooperating ... The thing that I find odd is that none of the library staff I've spoken to over the past couple of weeks - of which there have been a few - ever said that the same thing had happened with BT before and there are surely a lot of people who have BT email addresses who will have encountered the same issue. I didn't have time today but I will certainly tell the library staff that this is an issue in case some other poor soul is spending hours trying to figure out why they can't get in. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Can't log on to library computer

Thank you both for your replies. It is good to have found the BT community.
