Oh dear: we have been lumbered with DV.

Now we have to have two electric sockets side by side - one for the DV adapter and one to keep the phone charged up.

Now we can't pick up a second phone and join in a conversation like we used to be able to do.

What have they done?

I think its more a question of what have you done. If you use the supplied BT handsets you don't need an adapter and you can pick up the second handset.
