Dual band Wifi Extender 600 change SSID???

Hi there,

I currently have a BT Home hub 5 with a dual band wifi extender 600. I would like to have a separate SSID for the wifi extender so that I can choose which devices connect to it. Any ideas on how I can do this?

Many thanks in advance

Re: Dual band Wifi Extender 600 change SSID???

Hi joeh201,

You should be able to access the Extenders settings by navigating to http://mybtdevices.home - you will need the Admin password which can be found on the label of the device.

The settings should allow you to assign a separate SSID for the extended network.

Many Thanks

Hi Darren,
Unfortunately the link you sent me doesn't work. It says 'This site can't be reached'.
Any ideas why this might be?

Cheers,

Joe

I suspect you need to be actually connected to the device for the link to work. Therein lies the catch 22 as until you change the SSID you can't be sure you are connected to it.

If the extender appears in the network list of your hub 5, you can access the extender by entering its IP address in your browser.

Re: Dual band Wifi Extender 600 change SSID???

Hi,

As liquorice has just mentioned, for that URL* to work you will need to be connected to the Extender.  If you have access to the BT Home hub settings (http://192.168.1.254 or http://bthomehub.home) you can find out the IP address of the Extender and connect to that directly e.g. http://192.168.1.123)

* please note I made a typo in the original URL - it should be http://mybtdevice.home (no 's')

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion but when I go onto the hub 5 router settings, the extender does not  show up as when it pairs with the router, it copies it's SSID

Unfortunately it doesn't, as I think the extender copies the SSID of the hub 5

Re: Dual band Wifi Extender 600 change SSID???

Its nothing to do with SSIDs why it doesn't show up in the hub manager, but I'm not surprised, my Hotspot 500s don't either.

If you launch a command prompt and type ping 192.168.1.255 and then type arp -a  you will see a list of IP addresses. You might be able to identify which is the extender from that.

Yeah I've done that but I get about 15 IPs so would be quite difficult to identify it, even if I could what use would that be?
