ESPN and Boxing Nation not working on BT app on Andorid Tablet

Go to solution

All BT sports channels up to and including Wednesday 14 April were working just fine on my tablet.

Now, BT Sports 1,2, and 3 working perfectly

ESPN (which I use to watch late night baseball) - now all I get is sound - absolutely no picture at all.

Same with Box Nation (not a channel I watch but including the information).

I uninstalled and re-installed the app (8.10.1) but same situation.

Very frustrating - any suggestions?

Is your tablet a Hudl 2 by any chance @baseballfan ?

Not good news then I'm afraid.

We're making a few changes to enable strong content protection on our content. This is a requirement from the football leagues to stop piracy.

The Hudl 2 is the first casualty of these changes. The secure hardware decoder in the Hudl 2 has a fault, causing the video to just display a few frames and then give up. We've spent many hours this week trying to find a combination that works, but no luck.

In the next app release we've added a message that tells users the device is no longer supported and unable to play the video.

I know this is disappointing as the Hudl 2 was a popular device, but there really isn't anything we can do.

Thank you for the very detailed and prompt explanation. I tried the app on another Hudl 2 we have and had the same result - so figured it was device related.

What I find strange - up to 2 days ago all was working perfectly. You then mention about protecting football content, yet I can view BT Sport 1,2,and 3 (the channels with football content) perfectly on the Hudl 2.

It's confusing that NON FOOTBALL channels (ESPN and Box Nation) are the ones NOT WORKING.

I have an iphone where the BT Sports app is working perfectly for ESPN - is there a way I can somehow view that on either the tablet or on another TV I have that is not connected to the BT viewing box? Many thanks for your help

We're still working on it. We'll be turning it on and off across various channels and events over the next few weeks, across different devices. We need to get a full assessment of performance and reliability before we turn it on for everything.

Is there a way I can watch BT sports channels on a 2nd TV? Do I just get another BT viewing box?

A cheaper option would be a media stick of some description ... any of these would do:

What a great job by your team !!  Yesterday I tried the app on the Hudl 2 and it works perfectly across ALL BT Sports channels - including ESPN !!

Thanks again for getting this fixed so quickly - very much appreciated

I'd like to say we've fixed it, but we really haven't @baseballfan - as I mentioned above, you'll find that it works on and off across different channels as we test out all our content options. Very shortly, all live channels will stop working on the Hudl 2 permanently.
