External Router

Got the BT Smart Hub 2 and looking to attach a Netgear R8000P Router but for the life of me can't se how to get them to talk to each other.

Wanting to have different SSIDs for the 2.4GHz & 5GHz broadcasts.

Any ideas ?

Re: External Router

The smart Hub2 doesn't have a modem only mode. If you want to use the Netgear as a very expensive wireless access point, give it an address outside of the DHCP range of the Hub (e.g 192.168.1.20), disable DHCP on the Netgear and connect the 2 devices LAN port to LAN port.

If you want to use it as a router, then you need to connect the Netgear WAN port to a hub LAN port and create a new sub-network. Be aware you will be then double natting.

Re: External Router

Cheers.

I've had the Netgear for a couple of years so want to make use of the SSID naming ability.

Re: External Router

When you change the IP address of the Netgear, you may need to also set the Gateway address. This will be 192.168.1.254 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
