Full Fibre, Third Party Router, Digital Voice

I have recently upgraded to Full Fibre 900. As part of this huge speed increase I decided to upgrade my home with some real networking equipment rather that the standard ISP supplied kit. As a result I have installed Unifi equipment and hardwired a few rooms to take advantage of the high speeds. All of this is fantastic and working perfectly, however I now have to figure something out for digital voice.

Doing a bit of research online I have seen various workarounds which I personally don't want to do.

My questions are:

1) Are BT working on a solution to 3rd party equipment? (eg: a phone 'dongle' that can connect to a network port)

2) Why was this not considered before it was rolled out?

I am sure I will get some curt replies telling me that BT have no obligation to support anything beyond their own equipment, however by taking that mindset we are excluding all other (and better) networking equipment where a landline is needed. That would be a very closed minded approach and surely cant be the only solution forevermore?

I very much doubt it as it is a deliberate policy.

2) Why was this not considered before it was rolled out?

See above

BT supply their own version of VOIP called Digital Voice, whilst not ideal, it is not unexpected that you need to use their kit to access it. You can always use a third party VOIP provider with your third party kit rather than use Digital Voice.

Re: Full Fibre, Third Party Router, Digital Voice

I cannot fathom your logic in terms of expectations. Why do you think BT decided to try and reinvent the wheel? An attempt at commercial gain? I believe digital voice will be seen as a technology cul de sac and BT will offer a standard SIP roll out at some time in the future.
In the meantime expect lots of frustration from consumers posting on forums like these.
