If you do indeed have the vr400 with a DSL port, factory reset it and start again. Run the wizard and select xDSL router mode and BT VDSL if you are on 'fibre' super fast broadband or BT ADSL if on standard broadband. When prompted, enter username bthomehub@btbroadband.com and password BT.
Ok thanks I'll try that tomorrow. Its not Fibre. In terms of how they connect to each other is it over Wifi or Ethernet. If Ethernet which number port is used on each device..... once again thanks for your help....
Yes, we know that. BT call their superfast VDSL FTTC broadband 'fibre' although it is delivered by copper from the cabinet. It's essential you choose the right option as VDSL uses PPPoE and standard ADSL broadband uses PPPoA
Sorry I didn't mean that like it sounded. Its ADSL, unfortunately Virgin hasn't reached his location, so its the best he can get right now. So does it link with the TPLINK via Ethernet or WIFI. Once I've completed this successfully I promise I'll write and post a step by step guide here for all to see. The amount of views that this post has attracted tells me that this is a hot topic in here...
Still no joy.... am able to enter SSID and password then it fails to find a connection after network test, any ideas appreciated....
Are you sure it's ADSL and not VDSL?
Not sure how entering SSID has any bearing on connecting.
At the risk of "comments are likely to cause offence" and the TP-Link is a VDSL/ADSL modem router, are you connecting the TP-Link through the BT hub or directly to the phone socket. If it is the former you should take the BT hub out of the equation and connect the TP Link directly to the phone socket using the details already supplied in message 11 unless there is some reason that you have chosen to connect through the BT Hub.
